Journal Editing
Date Navigation
When you first open a journal, you will always be at the last Journal Entry viewed. You may quickly move to Today's entry by tapping the Today Button. There are two main ways to navigate to Journal Entries.
Using the onscreen Year, Month and Day Bars
The first way navigate to journal entries is using the onscreen Year Bar, Month Bar and Day Bar to select your desired day.
You can choose a Year using the Year Bar. (See below for more detail on using the Year Bar.)
You can choose a Month by touching the name of a month on the Month Bar.
Select a day by touching a day on the Day Bar on the bottom of the iPad screen.
Using the new Fullscreen Calendar
The Fullscreen Calendar is an alternate way to navigate through and view your journal. You can access the Calender Picker by tapping the Calendar Button on the Top Bar.
While in fullscreen calendar mode, you can select any day to get a preview of that entry. Tapping a selected day will close the calendar and open that day in your journal view.
You can swipe left or right on the calendar to move to the previous or next month. You can use the Month Bar or Year Bar to move through the calendar easily, just like in the normal journal mode.
To close the calendar - either select and open a particular day on the calendar, or tap the Calendar Button on the Top Bar again.
The Top Bar
Year Bar
You can select the Year by finger swiping across on the Year Button - left or right - to move it to another year. You can also touch the arrows on either side of the Year Button to move back or forward in time. Tap the Year to edit the Year directly - which allows you to type which year you want!
Month Bar
This is a list of all the months. Just touch one to go to that month. The Month will be underlined if it has journal entries. If month has no journal entries, you will not see the underline indicator.
Toolbar
On the Top Bar you will also find the toolbar - a set of buttons for various Functions
- Help (where you are!)
- Today. A button to navigate quickly to Today's Date and Entry.
- Font Setting - change your Font, Font Size, Text Brightness and Text Background Brightness
- Search. Search by Text, by Keyword Tag, by Rating, or by most Recent
- Export. Export to email, text, PDF or Secure PDF
The Journal Writing Area
This is the central area in Maxjournal. This will show any writing you have entered for the current day. Simply touch the writing area to enter Write Mode. See Writing in MaxJournal.
You can change Font Style, Size, Text Brightness and Text Background Brightness using the Font Settings button in the Top Toolbar
In Portrait mode, the Journal writing area will have small icons in the upper right. These are icons for accessing Photos, Keyword Tagging and Rating. You will not see these icons in Landscape mode - as all of this functionality is visible in the Sidebar. (Note, the Rating Indicator is shown in both Portrait and Landscape mode.)
The Day Bar
The Day Bar is located at the bottom of the Maxjournal screen. It shows all of the Days in the currently selected month. The days are color coded to visually indicate which days have a journal entry. A white colored day has no entry information (no text, no photos and no tags). A blue colored day means it has a journal entry. A day with a gray squared background indicates Today's Date. If Today's Date also has a journal entry it will be tinted blue instead of gray.
The currently selected day always has a blue square background.
The Sidebar
The Sidebar is only available when viewing Maxjournal in Landscape mode. This area contains 2 major tools - the Photos Tab and the Tagging Tab.
Photos Tab
This is an area for adding Photos to a particular journal entry. See Working with Photos for more information.
Tagging Tab
